Michael Calvey, a graduate of Boston College and Columbia Law School, began his career at a large international law firm named Coudert Brothers, with offices throughout the world. Based in its New York office, he went on to become a partner in the firm and co-chairman of its litigation department.
In that capacity, he represented a broad array of domestic and non-domestic clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small start-ups, as well as individuals, as lead counsel in litigations, arbitrations and administrative proceedings throughout the United States. He has also advised companies on general business matters, ranging from formation of a company to a full range of its day-to-day activities.
In litigation, his experience ranges from simple collection cases to complex securities and anti-trust cases, from libel cases for the television networks to anti-dumping cases before the Commerce Department and the Federal Trade Commission, from complex intellectual property cases to discrimination, insurance and breach of contract cases.
With extensive experience in intellectual property, both in litigations and in drafting and providing advice on publishing contracts, trademark licenses and the like, he is the author of a chapter devoted to intellectual property in the treatise Start-Up and Emerging Companies. He has lectured abroad on U.S. copyright law.
Mr. Calvey is admitted to practice before State and Federal courts in the State of New York, though he has represented clients on a pro hac vice basis in various courts throughout the United States. He and his wife currently reside in northern New Jersey.
